Tri Chats are short training updates to keep me in check! My first week back at home was going great. I made it to all my trainings, I did the entire track practice (which I suffer and pant through each time), I added three boot camp sessions and was looking forward to riding Slider for 45 miles on Saturday. My Tri2One team has been training hard while I’ve been on vacation. Many of them are racing the Key Biscayne Trilogy Triathlon on Sunday so they had an easy week. I thought if I pushed through this weekend, I could catch up a little on the endurance and the miles. But I guess I am getting old. Or maybe its because my son Dreamer D has been coming back into my bed the past two nights and pushing me into a corner. One night I woke to an arm across my face, the other to a knee digging into my back. As I got out of bed this morning psyched to ride, something in my back went “BING”. It’s a familiar feeling as it happens once every three or four months. My back just spasms, my muscle gets inflamed and moving is difficult. I debated if to go anyways but fortunately, I’ve matured and learned in the past couple of years. I took Motrin, got some ice, and went back to bed.
When Dreamer D does wake up he asks me “Mami, shouldn’t you be biking?” Yes I should. But if I biked today, then my back would take longer to heal. If I just hold on and be patient, by Monday this will hopefully be done with.Lucky for me, the Trilogy race is down the beach from where I live so I will head out early, go for a nice long calm walk on the beach and then join my Coach and teammates to see Tri2One win some podiums.
