I am nowhere near a fashionista and I live in workout clothes. On any given day, you will see me at school pick up in a tech shirt, capri tights, and sneakers with the TriathlonMami logo slapped wherever it fits. It’s who I am. If I am working, training for an Ironman, and being a mom, who has time for fashion? I certainly don’t.
Of course I get dolled up every once in a while, and my initial awkwardness gives way to a strut by the end of the evening. So somewhere in there, I enjoy “feeling pretty.” I just wasn’t aware that I could feel pretty in gym clothes.
Enter Six:02, a new women’s fitness store. They are all over the country but a new store just opened at the Aventura Mall here in South Florida. When I told them that Aventura was not really in my neighborhood, they didn’t blink. They have a wonderful online store as well.
Six:02 carries a variety of premium brands such as Nike, Addidas, Brooks, and Spanx and their sales people are experts at finding you a great fitting outfit. But that is not what makes them special.
You CAN look good in fitness clothes, but what are you going to do about it? They can dress you, but even more, Six:02 wants to be a source of inspiration motivating you to have a #Six02Moment. That is, the moment you take time for yourself, to do what you like more than what you need: the world stops and life has to wait until you are done.
The #Six02Moments don’t have to take long, but they should be claimed. By all of us. As they write it:
SIX:02 is a moment in time — “It’s Your Time.” Our name reflects the minutes or hours we encourage each woman to take for herself — to work out and stay fit, and to invest in feeling and being her best. The name is meant to inspire!
6:02 — the time you wake up to go to the gym!
6:02 — the time you leave work to attend your spin class!
6:02 — the mile you aspire to run, or beat!
Okay, so I wake up earlier and run slower but that’s beside the point.
Though I may lack in the fashion department, I do a decent job of having my almost daily #Six02Moment. Training for triathlons is my “me” time; it’s a respite from life where I am responsible only for myself. I believe that claiming training as my moment is what has made it so special and such a priority in my life. When I don’t have it, I get cranky and even Joe tells me “just go out for a run or something.”
So in my case, Six:02 decided to make my #Six02Moment a little nicer. They sent me a great looking outfit: a Nike Perform yellow top with an Addidas sports bra, Addidas capri pants and Mizuno running shoes. I loved everything, but was unsure about the top. It is long and narrow, a cut that doesn’t favor my body type.
Having a new outfit certainly made getting out of the house easier at 5:40am on Tuesday. I was going to run alone, and I wore my outfit (minus the pants because it is HOT here) without any hesitation about the shirt. Yet along the way I met up with two friends who both immediately commented on my appearance. Not only was I matching for probably the first time in my training life, but I was wearing a more fitted top than usual.
They loved the look, and I know them well enough to know they were sincere. They asked me why I was wearing something so different, I told them about Six:02 and their continued comments encouraged me to “own” the look with more bravado.
All of a sudden, I felt the part. I felt like a an athlete, not like someone who just rolled out of bed. And there I was, running along my two friends, pushing through a hard interval workout at 6:00am having our #Six02Moment.
How about you? What do you like to do when you claim your “me” time? Have you ever been to a Six:02 Store? What did you think?
