Tri Chat – The “Transition” Week

The past couple of months I have been training for the GEICO Florida Road Safety Tour a four day, four hundred mile cycling journey.  You can read about that what I was feeling before I left here, how the tour works here and my lessons here.  That took quite an effort so this week was a recovery/unscheduled week.

I am currently training with Endurance Nation and was told to “jump into” their half ironman training plan this week.  I will be doing the Triatlo Longo Caminha in Portugal this coming summer and though it is not an “A” race (it is meant as a training race for IronMan Florida), I want to survive it.  I’ve never raced outside Florida, much less in the mountains with 14% inclines on the bike, so I want to get crackin’ and get strong.

I checked the plan and they are in week 8 and with heavy mileage already, so in my typical fashion of never following directions I improvised training for this week with lots of rest on my tired legs.  I did not run much but swam a lot and spend some good time on the saddle in the weekend.

I NEED to get my training act together, and something that will be consistent.  I am going to try to go to spinning class with my sister when possible since I can make the bike very heavy to simulate going up hills (I live in pancake flat Florida), and will try to tag along with friends over the weekend.  It gets hard to go at this alone so getting some “friend time” in there will help.  Today, Sunday, I was able to ride with my friend Cynthia who will also be doing IronMan Florida.  We are more or less at the same pace so I am hoping our training plans are similar that we can do some of the long stuff together.  Let’s see how it goes ….
